Despite progress to understand leukemia onset, the factors contributing are still poorly understood. Many leukemia cells display a change in cell size and shape. However, it is unknown whether cell size and shape influence cancer. We will test whether abnormally sized blood stem cells affect leukemia onset using stem cell transplantation assays and leukemia mouse models. We anticipate that this research will identify cell size as a new cancer driver providing new approaches for treatment.
